Finding My Creative Muse -- My Journey

Balance in our lives is so important to all of us.  Creativity of the spirit, allows you to balance most of what life throughs your way on a daily basis.  I wanted to start writing again as I feel that is the part of my creative outlet that is missing.   Having a creative outlet for expression:  journal writing, story writing, blog writing, professional course design, etc., has come to me at a time in my life that I realized that I have starved my creative muse and have denied myself the pleasure that can be derived from something else other than work.  My explorations have led me to drawing classes, water colour and oil painting classes, creative writing classes, dancing and recently, a new found discovery in my own natural environment through photography (in particular, plant identification and traditional uses) , felting animals, quilting and needle punching. For those of you that know me, this may not be a surprise.  Those of you that don't, will learn--I'll try most things once, but what I have learned is that it's OK to have many interests and to try new things.  One of these is my secret love and I'm trying to develop myself through writing expressively and intuitively.  This is my creative journey.  I hope you'll join me--

  2. Change--abstract, conceptual, concrete--how we observe change, how we adjust or adapt to change or not, can affect us throughout our lives. I find change difficult, and it often stops me from taking that next step; to acknowledging my son is now 27, soon to be 28--to accept that my life is changing and I have stepped out beyond those boundaries in order to find not only my creative path, but to boldly go where I haven't been for a long time--a participant in my own life. Aging and observing others aging around me; making friendships; taking paths untaken; looking into the eyes of others and acknowledging the humanity that we share--that connects us in times of change. Whether we force the change within ourselves or accept that we are continually changing, we, as humans, are in a constant state of flux and this creates a standard of risk taking, acceptance, perhaps a happier state, thoughts and arguments for and against, but all along existing within the flux. Training ourselves to be flexible in mind, body, thought and dealing with the stress is something we all have to come to terms with or accept that we are a part of the change and it's a gift.

  3. "I See You"--an African Proverb, a line in Avatar, who knows where the term originated but the thought behind these 3 simple words is profound. Reaching out to others through a glance, a simple hello, an understanding smile acknowledges the commonalities between people. I see you--takes away the shallowness of our every day connections, the superficiality - to one step deeper. An acknowledgement of the common human experience--I see you at a level that goes beyond artiface and embraces the concept that we are not invisible, that we are human with joys, failures and depth. Reaching out to others, seeing others, letting go of your own inhibitions to take the time to say hello rather than politely turning your head the other way. I think that with one glance, I see you, I have not missed out on an opportunity to understand how others think, feel, think and these 3 simple words regardless of origin take us further into the depths of humanity, reaching out, you're now beyond a stranger--you're a part of my community and I'm a part of yours. Remember my friends, "I see you." Live well, laugh lots and reach out often.
