Technology and this baby boomer (yes I'm at the end of the booming cycle)

I have always been suspicious of technology--any kind--I put my head in the sand and became a sort of a luddite--electricity was good.  I was also suspicious of Social Media of any kind.  Why would people want to put their life online (the good, the bad, the ugly (Old Clint Eastwood movie).  When I was young, 1983, my boyfriend of the time bought a Commodor 64 and I thought he was crazy---what would happen to typewriters?  When cell phones came out, another friend bought one and tried to convince me this was the way to go...I didn't learn even with digital cameras--see the pattern?  My son has always had strong computer skills, this is his time and he has the flexibility of mind to see where technology is going.  I left my job as a secretary shortly after they put a computer on my desk at work--I couldn't see the possibilities of what I could do--it seemed to me to be a long labour intensive process AND they had to hire people to work with the secret language of computers--but with my typewriter, I could fly and I was creative and fast.  Productivity was just fine by me.  When the computer landed with THUNK that resounded around the world, I went back to school looking for a profession that did not require the use of technology--I chose teaching--laugh now.  I resisted email for a long time, eventually realizing what I was missing out on.  My boss at the time was deathly afraid of the photocopier lighting, he suggested that computers weren't just for me and he had read research about people like me--every time they touch something technology related something would go wrong.  What I have learned, once I've overcome my suspicions--it doesn't matter what I think, it matters that I have an open pocket book, an open mind and that the greatest gift of technology is problem solving, keeping your skills sharp.  Now I can get into that!  So, for the last month, I have been upgrading and becoming more familiar with the unfamiliar and I'm actually enjoying it.  I've let go of my old ideas about technology and I can see the promise for years to come.  Welcome to the new world...
